The 2023 edition of the NCAA Tournament was one filled with upsets chaos and drama. The First Round showed that lightning can strike twice with the second ever 16 over 1 upset in history. Non-conference play-in team Fairleigh Dickenson shocked perennial choker Purdue in perhaps the biggest upset since Chaminade-Virginia in 1982. Not only that, but 15 seed Princeton took the Ivy League to the Sweet 16 with wins over Arizona and Missouri, while Furman stunned Virginia in one of the worst inbounds the world has ever seen. Surprisingly, for the sixth straight year the defending champion did not make it past the first weekend as Kansas was taken down by the Razorbacks of Arkansas.

History was made in the Regionals as for the first time ever, every 1 seed was eliminated before the Elite 8 as Miami clowned Houston and San Diego St ended Alabama’s controversy filled season. Both the 5 seeded Aztecs and Hurricanes were joined in the Final Four by the most hated 9 seed in history the tournament. The 9 seeded FAU Owls ended Fairleigh Dickenson’s run with gusto (after squeaking by Memphis on a controversial call) and closed out short king Markquis Nowell’s Kansas St Wildcats. The West Region provided the resurgence of blue-blood “4 seed” UConn who decimated every team in it’s path including a 28 point drubbing of Drew Timme’s moustache and Gonzaga, with incredible performances from eventual MVP Adama Sanogo (who was fasting for Ramadan no less).

The Final Four in Houston had two mid-majors that faced off in a classic as the Aztecs clipped the Owls on a incredible buzzer beater from Lamont Butler while UConn continued to cruise with another double digit win over Miami. The Championship Game was never in doubt as the Huskies cruised to their 5th title with a 76-59 win capping one of the most dominant runs in NCAA Tournament history.
